§ 78-17.1. Civil enforcement of prohibition against passing a stopped school bus.

  • (a)

    In accordance with the requirements of Code of Virginia, § 46.2-844, Code of Virginia, 1950, as amended, there is hereby established a civil enforcement program using a video-monitoring system for violation of Code of Virginia, § 46.2-859, as amended, prohibiting the passing of a stopped school bus.

    (b)

    Any violation of Code of Virginia, § 46.2-859, as amended, identified through a video-monitoring system, shall subject the operator of the vehicle to a $250.00 civil penalty.

    (c)

    The Prince George School Board is authorized to contract with a vendor to install and operate a video-monitoring system on school buses for the purpose of recording violations of this section.

    (d)

    All civil penalties collected under this section shall be paid to the school division to be used exclusively to purchase school buses.
