§ 82-432. Construction standards for building sewers.

  • (a)

    The materials of construction of the building sewer or internal wastewater collection facilities constructed in mobile home parks, industrial and commercial complexes, apartment complexes and similar uses connected to a public wastewater system and the methods to be used in excavating, placing of the pipe, jointing, testing and backfilling the trench shall all conform to the requirements of applicable rules and regulations of the department. Joints shall be watertight, rootproof and with no allowable infiltration. All excavations required for the building sewer shall be open trench work unless approved by the director. No backfill shall be placed until the work has been inspected by the department. Any part of the building sewer that is located within ten feet of a water service line shall be located at least one foot (0.3 meter) in elevation below the water pipe and tested with a ten-foot head of water (4.3 psi or 31 kPa) and found to be tight.

    (b)

    The size and slope of the building sewer shall be subject to the approval of the department and the building official, but in no event shall the diameter be less than three inches (7.5 cm) for single-family dwelling units nor less than six inches (15 cm) for multiple-family dwelling units. The slope of the three-inch (7.5 cm) diameter pipe shall be not less than 3/16 inch per foot (1.5 cm/meter) and the slope of the six-inch (15 cm) diameter pipe shall be not less than one-eighth inch per foot (1.0 cm/meter).
